Basildon Hospital – Healthcare

Davis Construction secured this £1.7 million healthcare project in February 2017 with work beginning in March of the same year.

The Essex based hospital primarily attends to the surrounding 405,000 people in Basildon, Thurrock and Castle Point. In 2016, 77,500 inpatients and day patients were treated by the Trust, plus an additional 300,000 outpatients. A further 103,000 patients were treated in A&E.

The purpose of the project was to modernise the existing rooms of the hospital, to create a more efficient use of space, enable more recovery bays to be used and increase overall patient capacity.

The project was divided into two phases, each with their own sub-sections.

Phase one was split into three sections:

• Section 1A – refurb of the entrance corridor and new x-ray areas.
• Section 1B – refurb of an assessment room, new bariatric WC and two new x-ray suites.
• Section 1C – refurb of a circular corridor with changing cubicles, a fluoroscopy equipment room and dressed recovery area.

Phase two had two further sections:

• Section 2A – refurb of two recovery bays, four bed bays, a resus bay, two recovery circulation areas a nurse’s bay and recovery room lobby.
• Section 2B – refurb of an x-ray waiting area and CT scanner waiting area.
