Considerate Constructors Scheme- Building Best Practice
Has the construction industry escaped its stereotypes? At Davis Construction, we believe our dedicated approach to customer service and completing projects on time and on budget is rapidly rectifying this negative labelling. The days of catcalling and rough estimates are thankfully fading into the past, replaced with a pride for professionalism and leaving a positive impression on clients, the public and the environment.
The construction industry’s influence throughout the country is widespread. Whether it is direct or incidental, many move to the rhythm of a jackhammer. Therefore, we work hard to establish best practice in everything we do as a company, to preserve the trust of our clients.
As such, we are proud to promote the benefits of the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS). For a while, we have ensured our sites are registered with this excellent initiative. The CCS aims to encourage safe and efficient practice during construction projects and, consequently, disassociate our industry from the harmful typecasts of years gone by towards a future of certified success.
What is the Considerate Constructors Scheme?
The CCS was established in 1997. A non-profit, independent organisation, it has sought the sustained improvement of the construction industry’s image. This has expanded to include individual sites and suppliers, safeguarding every stage of the building process. It also offers effective advice and guidelines on how our work may impact the public, the environment and your workforce.
This objective is best displayed in their ‘Code of Considerate Practice’, which they ask companies such as ours to follow. It urges those involved to go the extra mile in every aspect of their approach for the benefit of clients and the reputation of the industry as a whole.
The Code is split into 5 subheadings:
- Care about appearance – ensuring the appearance of sites enhance the image of the construction industry
- Respect the community – demonstrate courtesy and respect towards neighbours and the general public
- Protect the environment – identify and promote environmental protection throughout a project
- Secure everyone’s safety – have systems in place that care for the safety of the public, visitors and workforce
- Value your workforce – provide a supportive and caring work environment for staff
Davis Construction – Turning Aspiration in Action
The CCS marks sites, companies and suppliers on its 10-point scale, quantifying the actions they take to uphold their Code of Practice. Therefore, we take strides to demonstrate the innovativeness they request, resulting in our regular return scores high up the scale.
Davis Construction has taken inspiration from their good intentions, introducing a number of methods in the pursuit of best practice. For instance, their section on respecting the community is present when we inform neighbours in the vicinity about the upcoming site, when work will take place, how long it will last and more.
The CCS also employs Ivor Goodsite to communicate health and safety measures to younger audiences. We in turn have established assemblies and interactive activities to ensure schoolchildren are fully aware of the construction work taking place and how to stay protected against the risks.
Finally, we promote our own set of core values, which are geared to promoting professionalism and good ethics at Davis Construction, from management through to the workforce. These follow the CCS’s goals of enhancing the industry as a whole and illustrate that we have the best interests of our clients, the public and our environment at heart.
At every construction site, we guarantee that best practice is followed at every stage of a build. For more information, feel free to contact us on info@davisconstruction.co.uk.
